Are Your Ducts Clean?

11/2/2022 (Permalink)

Clean Air Ducts Make a Difference Do you have bad allergies? Allergic to dust or pet dander? Consider cleaning your ducts to improve your indoor air quality!

Did you know, your ventilation system is often the biggest culprit in poor indoor air quality?  Inspecting the ductwork in your facility or home should be a high priority.  In most cases, the HVAC system has been operating for some time without much attention.  Dirty ducts can circulate odors, contaminants such as mold, and irritating dust throughout your building or home.

A routine part of SERVPRO Dale City/Lake Ridge is inspecting the heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit (HVAC).  Keeping the HVAC and ductwork clean can potentially extend the life span of the equipment by allowing it to operate at peak condition, which may save you money.

In some circumstances, such as after fire, smoke or suspected mold growth, duct cleaning becomes an essential part of the cleanup process.

If you have a fuel burning furnace, stove or fireplace, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends they be inspected for proper functioning, and be serviced before each heating season to protect against carbon monoxide poisoning.

The SERVPRO Duct Cleaning System is proven and cost efficient.  Unlike the majority of duct cleaning services, SERVPRO Dale City/Lake Ridge uses a portable ventilation and air duct cleaning system to examine ductwork and make a clean sweep, removing years of duct and grime.

  • The process begins by using patented equipment including a roto-scraper, which automatically adapts to the duct's shape and diameter while traveling through the duct, removing debris and filth before vacuuming begins.
  • Next, a powerful push-pull air delivery and collection system transfers the debris from the ducting to a 16-gallon container.
  • Air is filtered through a HEPA filtration system, removing 99.97 percent of the particles in the airstream.  HEPA filters capture debris and keep the indoor environment clean.
  • As an optional process, a sealant or coating product may be sprayed to address odor or microbial concerns.

Commercial Carpet Cleaning Services for the Northern Virginia Area

3/1/2022 (Permalink)

Deciding when is the best time to have your commercial property carpets professionally cleaned is a debatable topic for most business owners and property managers. Basing this decision on the amount of foot traffic your company sees daily could help determine when it is time to have your property serviced.  However, there are several more factors to take into consideration.

Eliminate Allergens

Despite the potential to track in water and dirt, your carpets may stay cleaner for an extended amount of time in the fewer traffic periods since they will not accumulate as many allergens. During the warmer months, pollen, dust, and airborne pollutants enter your business through open doors and windows. If you did not have your carpets cleaned in the fall, that contamination makes an unhealthy indoor environment. When you seal everything up for winter months and keep doors and windows closed, everything stays trapped inside, and your carpet holds it all, adding to the polluted air. Professional cleaning of the carpets in your business reduces and eliminates those spring and summer pollutants and makes it easier for your employees to breathe when they are inside.

Faster Carpet Drying

It is easy to believe that freshly cleaned carpets dry faster in the warmer weather, but that’s not always true. Carpets may dry slightly quicker in the winter due to lower humidity that helps moisture evaporate more quickly. Professional carpet cleaners, such as our team at SERVPRO of Dale City/Lake Ridge and SERVPRO of Woodbridge/Lorton, also have high-powered fans to allow quicker drying so you can enjoy your clean carpets and revel in the warmth and insulation they bring to colder months.

Holds the Value Longer

Regular professional cleaning extends the life of your carpet. Even if you can’t see the stains, soil, and pollutants on your carpet, there’s a tremendous amount you do not see that is slowly but surely wearing away at your carpet.

Cleanliness Impresses Your Clients

You have heard of the saying, “Dress to Impress.” Well, the same goes for how your company looks to your current or potential clients. With your lobby being where people enter and exit your business, chances are it is also one of the highest traffic areas in your facility. As a result, the floor and carpet in your lobby gather even more soil and grime than other business areas. To ensure you are generating the best impression possible, make certain you clean high traffic areas more often than other areas.

SERVPRO of Dale City/Lake Ridge and SERVPRO of Woodbridge/Lorton offers state-of-the-art equipment that our highly trained professionals handle to get the job done right. Whether it’s removing an odor problem or deep cleaning flooring or carpets, you can rely on us to make your workspace look its very best.

Removing Cigarette Smoke

Nicotine Odors Have you recently moved into a home or apartment in Northern Virginia and encountered a strong nicotine smell?

Have you recently moved into a home or apartment in Northern Virginia and encountered a strong nicotine smell? There are some home remedies to try, but these will only work under certain circumstances. There are many questions to consider, such as how long the cigarette smoke has been impacting the area, how strong is the smell, and where is it concentrated.

If the home remedies you have tried are unsuccessful, it is best to send a professional out to inspect it. Our team at SERVPRO of Dale City/Lake Ridge and SERVPRO of Woodbridge/Lorton is here to help.  Once we can establish the extent of the damage, we will begin to plan action steps for ridding the home of the stench. Often nicotine residue can cling to the HVAC system, so a full duct cleaning could be the answer to residual odor that seems to outlast other odor removal methods. If the ducts have been cleaned, then we will ozone the affected areas. We will bring in air scrubbers to remove the airborne contaminants and control the air quality during the restoration and cleanup process.

After the ozone process is complete, we will use a thermal fogger, which uses a special solvent-based deodorizer that is heated and applied as a dry fog/smoke. Thermal foggers rely on a deodorizing solution that is vaporized in the fogger then blown into the room permeating all the contents and structural elements. This process will ensure that the nicotine odor is gone for good.

If you have more questions or would like to schedule an odor assessment, give our team at SERVPRO of Dale City/Lake Ridge and SERVPRO of Woodbridge/Lorton a call at 703-583-8484.
